Neo-shamanism is on the ascendancy. The reasons are evident to anyone concerned about the plaenet’s natural environment as well as humanity’s fate in the face of global worming. The study and understanding of the shamanic world-view gives modern people a glimpse into what ‘sustainability’ was and is and what one person can do to create a more significant life and a more livable world. Shamanism is – in part – an attitude toward nature and the planet and humanity’s relationship as stewards of our fellow inhabitants. Sustainability is not a group of practices or a project to recycle. It is a change in attitude that fundamentally shifts one’s relationship to the natural world, and therefore to oneself and one’s fellow earthlings. No world-view so completely allows one to explore this fundamentally different attitude as shamanism. Where on earth may one actually experience and investigate this world-view? Among the indigenous cultures of the world, some semblance of this ancient and very necessary world-view still obtains – even in daily life. Come see for yourself.
